This is the experience of my journey through Roehl CDL training. Trucking is a hot job and in demand so after alot of research ended up choosing Roehl. Im not here to sell anyone because im just finishing up 1st week and will catch things up on this diary.
So It all started with a sheet of paper and questions I had for prospective companies that were most important in choosing. After all I was a corporate guy with a mortgage, kids a girlfriend etc and like so many I found myself out of a job by this ever changing economy. So my first question was pay. Whats the pay ? Remember this guy has bills. Next was vacation time yes vacation time. R andR is important. Top notch benifits were a must and finally length of training. Lets face it im as free bird as they come and a solo driver is right up my ally like so many of you yet spending 10 to 14 days with a stranger in a truck is not on my bucket list in life but a small price for a new career. So my final choices were Roehl, Stevens Transport, Knight, and lastly Millis Transfer. Right out of the gate Knight said only taking students that live in Phoenix area. So Roehl called same day and wasted no time answering my questions. The others were calling 3 days later as I signed agreement. Now I heard alot of hoopla about this and I guess I dont get people. Its pretty straight forward black and white cut and dry. It plainly states Roehl will take a chance on me and invest in my training by putting me up in a hotel and feed me 3 meals a day for 4 weeks and I have a job day one and will earn my CDL. They ask in return I commit to staying a year and Its free. They will also pay me while im in training. SOLD!! No other comany came close to that. So I used the High Road training on trucking truth and the app went down and obtained my permit and endorsemnts and faxed to my recruiter. I was then cleared by safty after passing my DOT med and drug test. NOTE: Roehl requires a hair folicle test in addition. So I was givin a start date and booked Amtrak roundtrip to head to Marshfield. Roehl had a van and a driver pick me up at the train station in Tomah and made the hour drive to the hotel. I settled in and later got a knock on door. Surprise!! it was my roomate!
