I'm wanting to get my cdl and I've been study for my test and everything but are they any company that pay for all my training? I don't have a dime to my name I'm out of work and I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions would be helpful

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Most of the companies that train just give you a "loan" swift is $3900 for 17 days of school and 500 for hotel. You provide your meals after day one. Once you graduate you pay back $75 a week for 13 months for 3900 but if you tool the hotel you pay back $92 a week for 13 months. If you stay 26 months they pay you back the money you paid them for training so it's "free"

John, "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch". You won't get free/all expenses paid training. As Idaho noob explains, Swift will make your tuition free, no cash up front, buy it takes two years of driving for the company.

I know your bottom line is at least no cash up front. There will be some expenses on you (CDL at least). There are other companies that do get you meals. But it's all covered, eventually, by you, one way or another.

If you can't afford the arrangement Swift offers, then you might be able to afford the one from either Prime or CR England. These latter options might be in a position to help you the most.

Best of luck to you. But, as Errol stated, there is no free lunch...

I was in a similar situation, and got into Swift, no cash up front, only paying for my DOT physical and my CDL permit (and later the full license). I'm a veteran, but everybody signs a 1 year employment contract of one sort or another.

At Swift you need to supply your own food for the school.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
