Well, i made my decision after all of yalls adivice, and speaking with my grandpa who has driven most his life and my dad who currently drives I am not gonna do it. Unless they send me with an experienced driver and he drives through the mountains and I take over after I will not go. I may also be rethinking my company choice... If they are willing to try to get me to go like that, what else will they do? Your correct, it is irresponsible. Its down right stupid. Thank you all. This forum is great. Helped me stop and not make a dumb decision. As my dad said "the blue mountains in the winter with no training???!! Are you fricken stupid son!!! Hell no" lol

I think you made the right decision, good for you! You are already a better truck driver as a result of this...it's always the responsibility of the driver to make the right decision. You did!

I agree with Dan, there are many good Trucking Companies that will professionally train you. I suggest reviewing How To Choose A Company and based on that, start to Apply For Truck Driving Jobs so that you can get a better start to your career and train with an experienced driver for several weeks before going solo again.

Let us know how you are doing and if you need any additional input.

Good luck and safe travels.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Good for you on your decision and definitely listen to grandpa. That man has probably forgotten more about trucking than most of us will ever learn. I don't think you have to worry about finding a new employer and honestly, the company you were with should have known better than to ever put you in that position. Good luck, smart decision and keep on truckin.

You made the perfect decision driver I'm glad you didn't go for it and get hurt or worse I would recommend if they won't send you with a trainer and dropping your load I would find a new company.

Not having a trainer does not mean they are a bad company. I never had a trainer and my first load was 10 feet wide.

You have to be confident but also know your limitations. I was nervous but also comfortable at the same time. I took things at my own pace and pushed the limits at times. Taht is also one reason that i delayed getting the doubles endorsement until I felt comfortable enough. After pulling double belly dumps, they were easier than I thought they would be.

A little bit of audacity and reasonable self confidence helps.

I would not recommend anyone take the same route I did but that does not mean the company is bad.

Doubles:

Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

Yea, I may be lookin for new company. My dispatcher was mad when i told him in the office. Said "ok, I guess whenever it snows here or bad weather I will give you the day off" I told him its not the snow. Its the factt that im inexperienced, its mountains, and snow and ice. I asked him if he could just send me with an experienced driver. Just at least 1 time. After that I would be fine, I learn quick no problem. But he told me he will never send 2 drivers on an overnight. So its obvious I wont get the training and I know the same problem will arise in the future.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
