I have talked to a few people on the road and most do not use the towels provided at the truck stops. how many of you use them? It should not be any different than a motel shouldn't it?

I use them. I have my own towel too but I generally only use it if I shower at a terminal. I've never run into a truck stop that the towels were dirty, a little worn or thin sometimes but that's it.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I can not believe what you wrote.

$13 for a shower and you think the towels are dirty. No, the ones I went to- some were perfect, others were clean. Towels WERE FINE. The truck stops take pride and work hard on their facilities/accommodations.

SamTom, some truck stops put up freestanding pictures representing their cleaning crews. Also, they don't hide their towel laundry.. Generally, chain truck stops showers are as clean as any major hotel would have. Personally, I bring shower sandals. And I use their towels. (It's nice to leave a dollar for the cleaning person if you're satisfied with the room's cleanliness.)

Do bring towels along because some ma and pa truck stops might have free showers but BYOT.

Also, of course bring your own soap and shampoo. Most stops provide GoJo in the shower, the same soap you wash your hands with. I had to use that once. Just once, never again.

Yeah I had to do that the other day. Pulled the shower room door closed and realized I left my toiletry bag laying on the bunk. I'll be checking twice after that.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

You did not use "dirty".

Others have responded that the showers and accommodations are clean. That is important to the truck stop management.

A common recommendation at "public" type showers is to wear shower shoes to prevent athlete's foot.

Other then the fact that tons of people use those showers I think they are better then any house shower... Some feel like they are peeling your skin off... (The water pressure)

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
