The Jessup, Maryland TA? They charge for parking. It's been awhile since I've been out east.

So after dropping the loa I parked in a fenced area of the construction zone for the night. Ended up walking the couple miles to the National Mall.
It's really something at night. There's a reverent, somber atmosphere that I can't imagine there being during the day with all the crowds.
I took several pics that I will post when I can get my laptop to an Internet connection. To much trouble on my phone with this lousy service I have.
Oh and Phox, you're not kidding. The whole place is much bigger and spread out than I thought. In fact I was tired of walking and took a cab back to the truck. Little over 2 miles there but I came out on the Capitol building side. Didn't realize it was gonna be another 5 miles to see it all. Ok, maybe not quite that far but it sure seemed like it.
Glad you got to take in some of the sights in DC. It is a really neat place. We went Thanksgiving Day one year and it was great not as crowded and all the museums were still open. We were at the Jefferson Memorial at night and it was really nice. Thanks for sharing some of your journeys.
SamTon- did you get that reply to your email?
Yes, Southern, got it this morning. What is the best time? probably at night unless sometime tomorrow.

Yes they do. I got stuck staying there t last week. It's $15 for 24 hours, but free if you girl at least 50 gallons or spend $20 inside. It's also few if you park less than 2 hours.

did you see the Iwa Jima memorial? that's the monument of the marines putting a flag (well the pole for it) into the ground...been in more movies than I can count on my hands and feet. That's another one that'll catch you off gaurd in it's size. in the movies it's big but not as big as it really is... I have a picture from my first "fun" trip to dc. I'm about 6' tall so let that give you an idea of it's size. It's me in the picture.
well never mind... I can't find my DC pictures anywhere :( you'll just have to take my word for it if you did not see it... it's huge, the base of the monument is taller than me!
Also DC has a nice subway system... not sure where you parked but it might have helped shorten the walk.

They actually have a "motel," if you can call it that, on the premises as well. I hear that truck stop has a bad reputation.
Dave
Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

Yeah, I've seen some bad reviews of it too. I've only stopped there the one time, but there didn't seem to be anything to the bad reputation it has. Of course I could have just stopped there on a good day.
