An APU is a small diesel generator to run AC etc without having to run the truck engine. An EPU does the same thing but is an extra set of batteries. With an EPU the engine has an auto stop/start function to recharge the batteries if they get too low. My understanding is that Roehl has EPUs.

Roehl has EPUs. Not all of the trucks have the autostart function. My first truck was a 2015 Prostar and it did have autostart that would kick in if batteries became low. If you wanted to idle for whatever reason, you could for about 15 min before the engine would cut out. It can be pretty jarring when the truck turns on in the middle of the night. LOL. My new truck, a 2016 Freightliner, does not have that feature, but the truck will idle for 45 minutes. It has four batteries that are just for the bunk heater and I haven't had any problems with them getting low enough that idling to recharge was necessary though.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

You can connect a small microwave to an APU or an EPU?

Pay for a microwave and refrigerator and stuff but you can but an inverter to plug in to maybe run a microwave. Thier only thing is it has to plug into the cig lighter. If you get one that connects to the battery it has to be bought and installed by them.

I'm sorry...I did not understand your response...?

The truck only has 12V outlets so if you want to use a microwave or refrigerator you would need to buy an inverter. If you get an inverter that needs to connect to the battery of the truck you will have to buy and have it installed by Roehl (they charge to do that - I forget how much. I decided it wasn't worth it). I have opted for an iceless cooler, lunchbox stove, and other 12V devices.
