Is their anyone on here that has driven a truck in the oil fields in Texas? That is where the money is at. OTR money is ok, but oil field trucking is big $$$.

I'm not sure why more guys on here are not going into the oil fields to drive a truck? Many oil and energy companies are hiring. The oil fields is where I want to end up.

Anyone else? Tell me the good and bad to oil field trucking.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I live in Uvalde, TX, just a few miles from the Eagle Ford Shale field that runs from SW Texas through east central TX. Yes, there are a lot of jobs open in the oil field, but the best of them require experience. Most of the companies that hire inexperienced drivers will expect you to put quite a bit of time in on the rigs and such, doing very physical labor. It is hot, filthy and dangerous, so it is not for everyone. The days down here in the summer run 98 to 106 degrees, and we ain't talking dry desert heat. It is also muggy. If you don't mind these things, go for it.

Not sure about Texas, but in North Dakota where the oil boom is happening, i've spoken to multiple energy companies that hire water haulers up there and they are receiving in excess of 150 applications a day. You better hope you have some experience to set yourself apart from the crowd in that field
