Schneider pays trailer search pay and if they make me sit overnight because of no freight or dispatch problems, they pay layover.
It isn't much, but better than nothing and it is pretty rare I have to search.
So far (11 months & 110,000 miles) I haven't had what your husband is dealing with.
When you say "no pay"....who's paying for the gas you used, driving those miles??
RV -- not sure what you are getting at ... but, obviously the carrier pays for the fuel.
What do you mean, where I'm getting at...? I was just wondering who pays for the gas, I wanted to make sure it was the company, regardless of having a load or not. That makes me feel better

RV, Unless you are an owner operator , you will never pay for diesel fuel or DEF. You will be issued either a fuel card or Comdata card that is used for re-fueling. No worries on this (deep breath).
An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

When a trucker refers to "Gas" it has nothing to do with internal combustion engines. Burrito anyone?

Something to consider. Swift Dedicated throughout the course of a year, depending on how busy specific accounts are, will pull OTR drivers off the road and temporarily assign them to a dedicated account as a surge driver. If your lack of mileage becomes too low, could be a fallback option to keep you running. Although not all of the dedicated contracts require surge help, many of them do. Ask your DM about this. Feel free to PM me if he or she is of no help.
Many times what will happen; if a surge driver likes the temporary assignment they can request a permanent transfer. That's how it went down for me.
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Dm:
Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
