I looked for a couple weeks before finding one at Loves the other day. It was in a small rectangular white box on a bottom shelf near the straps.

It's a decent one, not like the crappy ones in the blister pack I've seen hanging on the rack.

Yea that's the big secret that everyone leaves out when they tell you to pick one up. The one usually visible is garbage, hard to use, and not worth the time. Pilot, flying j, and loves, all for some reason stick the good one on the very bottom shelf in an inconspicuous box that's much smaller than expected because you have to assemble it. This one is by far the best winder.

Yeah I actually almost passed over it. But just got curious about what was in the little box. All you could see was the end of the boxes, no writing or anything visible until you actually pulled it from the shelf. Now I wonder just how many times I've walked past those.

Yeah it's the same one I've got. And you can get them cheaper at the terminal. I just forgot to pick one up while I was there. Been winding straps by hand the last couple weeks and that's no fun. Had thought about making my own but I had enough points on my Loves card that it didn't cost to much. Think it's like $25 or so

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Here is the best one you'll ever find. Mind in the USA: Reel EZ 8" Strap Winding Wheel

Made with 14 gauge steel Tig welded Powder coated for durability 95 pound magnet for easy on/off mounting Wheel locks to hub while in use, but easily removable with a click Handle attachment for semi truck bed, tool box, utility box, or farm vehicle mounting Can be hand-operated

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was paid to build the website for this product. I'm not the inventor, but I do know him, and he's a nice guy. The reels he makes are first-rate.

I'm sure you were paid because, no offense here, that's the exact sort of design we're telling him to avoid. It's clumsy, slow, and difficult winding from the side. That odd behavior of closing in around the strap makes getting it out more time consuming. The one linked near the top of the the thread is the one we're saying is the best/fastest. Once you position your hand properly, which is easily learned, you can roll as fast as you can spin your hand, then one solid quick tap from the side will free the strap. I roll my straps in no more than 10 seconds each using this method, and that's being slow and lazy.

James you beat me to it. Another flaw I see in this design is there is no screw to tighten it in the rub rail. I imagine it rocks around pretty bad as a magnet doesn't do much good on an aluminum trailer.

I hadn't even considered that part rofl-2.gif
