I'm hoping for a drop and hook. Dry van.

double-quotes-end.png

from various posts, on here, and other places, and vlogs i have seen. I hope i get mostly live loads, lol. I don't want to drop a trailer then spend 4 hours finding an empty that isn't there. I will be happy with mostly no touch freight, though. I love Brett's tip on keeping records about anywhere i see a drop yard, etc. That will come in handy.

Don't know which would be worse looking for empty or waiting to be loaded.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

I am a patient person, but, very good point!

I never mind waiting to be loaded. If you have hobbies with you that you can do it always works out. I either play games or fly drones at places that'll let me.

This is believable to me and I say that because I'm currently in school and a few companies have come to my class one of them was AVERITTT and the lady stated you would make 4-500 a week GROSS so after healthcare, uncle sam,401k it's possible. I threw her card n pamplet in the trash immediately.

Waiting to be unloaded.

Spot on with that one. I think it's harder to punish the consignees. A few weeks ago i was the first truck at a consignee at noon. They don't start unloading until 3, okay then. I was told to sign in at 3 and to "get in line". Knowing i was there first i called bull**** on that, i went and stood in line at 2:30 so i could sign in first, rightfully so. I did so. When they started unloading people, they did it based on whoever parked closest to the building and was easiest to walk to. I parked the furthest away out of 5 trucks. 3 hour wait. Very rarely do i get upset at a shipper or consignee but i was quietly furious.

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

Also i was preplanned on a load that paid 4$'s a mile to the truck, so it paid me 1$ a mile. Keep in mind i'm a company driver. If i had lost that load i probably would have gone into the office and cursed out every single one of them.

I hear yah. I just take it in stride and try not to let it get the best of me.

You would have, or you would have wanted to? Cuz that's two completely different things with often times quite opposite results. There's a lot of times as a trucker you'd like to cuss someone out and I've seen it happen quite a bit but in all my years of driving I can't think of one time it actually helped the person who did it. As a trucker you simply don't have the authority to make people do diddly squat, but you certainly have the ability to get yourself put in all sorts of doghouses. There are customer doghouses, mechanic shop doghouses, DOT doghouses, and the best known of all the dispatcher's doghouses.

Being a trucker in someone's dog house isn't any fun, and it's normally quite expensive. You're certainly going to pay for it one way or another.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Brett you hit the nail on the head and summed it up in the one short statement of we have no authority to make anyone do didly squat. So very true. I have been in that same spot more times than I ever cared to think about, espically pulling refer and dealing with grocery warehouses. I have been known to be very proffessional and sometimes( certainly not all by any means) to talk my way into a better position. Although if they could have read my mind they would have found a much different thought inside my head. The other day I did catch a complaint for delivering too early and I thought of you when you got in trouble for it. Sometimes we can be too efficient for our own good,
