That's why I would have waited until being unloaded to do it. The purpose of detention pay is a financial deterrent them from eating your time. In the event that fails, especially at a small receiver, raising a **** storm can cause a review of policy. I probably won't see that place for several years if ever again because of the nature of the delivery, so I could care less if they don't like me much.

That approach ain't gonna work. You're burning bridges and accomplishing nothing. The only policy they're going to review if you throw a hissy fit is whether or not they should allow truck drivers in the building. And the answer clearly sometimes is no.

It's your opinion that it won't work. I think there is s chance it would, and a chance at no expense is worth trying

Yap, just my opinion.

But hey, my policy is simple - I'll tell you what I know, you do with it what you like. It doesn't hurt me a bit if you ignore what I say and make a mess of things for yourself. What do I care? Actually that just makes it a whole lot funnier.

It's like if a little kid sees you eating a hot pepper and gets made at you because you won't share it. You try to warn him but he doesn't care what you think. He knows what he thinks and that's all that matters to him. So okay, here's your pepper! But I warned you.

And by the way, when your mouth is burning and your eyes are watering and you're running for a glass of milk I hope you won't make it even more enjoyable by getting mad at me for laughin my *ss off. Because I will be.

But, i absolutely love hot peppers embarrassed.gif However, i won't mind if you laugh when it's a few hours after eating that pepper and i'm in a truck stop bathroom cursing at past me for having eaten it.

And I love that you think you can just go off on people and it's simply "a chance at no expense"......cuz yeah, people who have authority over you would never make you pay a price for being a jerk to them. No, that never happens in this industry. Never will.

You're totally right now that I think about it. I mean, I'm an idiot. What was I thinking? You should totally do it! I mean, next time you go into a customer and they don't do what you say, just freak out man! I mean, your reputation is on the line here. Don't let them tell you what's about to happen here. Don't let them belittle you like that. You tell them how things are going to be done around here and d*mnit if they don't listen you scream as loud as you have to until they do!

If you have to throw a tantrum - do it.

If you have to block their docks - do it.

If you have to threaten their families - do it.

Whatever it takes to bully them into listening - you do it. Don't let yourself down by giving in to them. Make them pay dearly for ever crossing paths with you!

::sarcasm::

I would pay to have someone film that for us.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

I might be going a little overboard but that's just cuz I'm just a really enthusiastic guy. When I hear a great idea I get pumped up about it. You made me think about how to deal with people in a new way and now I'm excited. You've got me convinced that you might be onto something with this "give em h*ll and make em pay" kinda thing.

Like my grandma always preached "kill em with kindness" and my parents always made the greatest effort to be super pleasant people so maybe they pigeonholed me into thinking that being a nice person was the most logical strategy.

But look at Hitler! He wasn't nice. He'd kill ya if you didn't listen to him.

Look at Stalin! You think he was afraid to cuss you out when he felt you deserved it?

Saddam Hussein used poison gas against his own people. That's why he was probably so successful, ya know?

So hey, if you gotta march into a place and nuke em with some filthy trash talk, well hey - that's what they get, right???

smile.gif

See, the more you look at this from a logical standpoint the dumber it sounds to think about marching in and going off on people. We all want to do that sometimes. Come on, we're human and sometimes people are jerks. But you have to be savvy about how you handle things and that starts by understanding your position of authority. And as a trucker, you have none. Therefore you shouldn't expect good results when you treat people as if they're beneath you. It ends badly. Time and time again it ends badly.

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

The reason that doesn't work is you made a lot of assumptions about how I would go about it. Regardless i don't really have the desire to go through a highly detailed discussion about the matter of convincing a responsible individual to attempt a new policy by being a **** because it started from some off hand short comment related to an event which passed painlessly like every other similar event.

From a probabilistic perspective is there a chance it would work, yes. That's pretty much all i was saying because you prompted it. Have i ever tried it, no. That should be evident by my previous post which said, " I don't harass my fm , shippers, consignees, or anyone to hurry, ever. On a few occasions they've come around after a few hours, "noone told me you were here...." and i still don't file detention pay unless it's a habitual offending company. " a few pages earlier in this same thread. So... i dunno, maybe find someone that has an actual problem with it to go over the top on i guess. If you're trying to make some kind of general public point that's fine, but i don't really have a dog in this random fight you started mang.

Consignee:

The customer the freight is being delivered to. Also referred to as "the receiver". The shipper is the customer that is shipping the goods, the consignee is the customer receiving the goods.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

True, detention charges can be a deterrent to taking too much time to load/unload. That's really between the dock operation and your trucking company.

In this scenario, you say you probably won't be back. It's possible that this is a one-off for your company, too. How will anyone think a driver they've never seen before from a company the rarely comes by is going to have any affect in their regular company policy?

The only result your hissy fit will cause is a further dislike of truck drivers in general, a "glad he's gone" feeling, and maybe the warehouse will finally set up a desk and a phone as the only contact drivers will need to deal with.

I suggest you always act in a professional manner, do your job and maybe tell your DM you don't like going there because they take too long to load.
