It makes me sad to read that you have an instructor like that. After my first weekend of classes, we were in the classroom only while everyone was getting set up with payment, license etc. and we went out on the range right away after. We'll have very little class time during the 10 weekends I'll go there. So far, the instructors are nothing short of patient, fun, knowledgeable, and caring. It is fast pace indeed, but they push you in a positive way and told us repeatedly that if we need more time, we will get more time.
