Congratulations, RV.

How did you do? Do you remember your percentages? What were some of the questions on the test? Were the questions similar to the ones you answered through the High Road Program.

Details! We need details now, please? Pretty please?

Details? She said she was going to throw up...

That's okay, RV:

Here's a little something to help you along in your quest to become a Professional Driver: Look Up Berna Schneider on Youtube. She drives for Maverick in its flatbed division.

Ok, so there was some very tricky questions that in my opinion, were quite the a**hole move on their part: one example, and I'll try to reiterate the best I can:

Question: The CDL manual gives a few tips on passing cars on the highway, which one is NOT one of them?

1. Put on your "high" beams when you move over to the left to pass and while your passing, and turn them off before you move over back to the right. (Ummm....no!)

2. Assume the cars didn't see you

3. Press down a quick sound of the horn (ummm....no!)

4. Flash them your high beams to move over

Answer:....?????? The ONLY answer that would make sense of the question had said "which one *is* one of them?" Would have been "assume the cars didn't see you". Any of the other choices are NOT a safe practice, and all of them would be the RIGHT answer to the question!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Good job passing the permit.

It's kind of creepy Brett could see when and what you have practiced... he spying on us!!!! haha

I don't know about where Brett is from, but in Texas Pre trip isn't needed for permit. Here we have a per mit test which is kind of a smaller version of general knowledge I guess and then we have combination vehicles. Then for the license we also have to take air brakes, pre trip and general knowledge.

If you want Brett I can pick up a copy of the Texas DPS cdl manual and mail you a copy for when you guys get around to making state specific training... course you'll have to make a single special HRT for Texas just because this dang state feels the need to be different from everyone else in just about every way. Including asking questions that have nothing to do with the CDL...

Combination Vehicle:

A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.
