LOL! Retirement!
Cool...thanks, I could go for a nice cup of TS mud about now. I took yesterday and today off; eye doc, dentist, family visits, etc. Loafing it. Some day our paths will cross, no doubt. I am back on tomorrow.

Now I do know a guy that started his on trucking company. He sold mobile homes for a living then went to a trucking company doing office work and now owns a small company. He is doin well if you have the cash we live in a country where you are free to do that. My father in law thinks I'm crazy being seven years from retirement to quit and start trucking but I'm doing it.

Definitely, I'll be back through later in the week. I'm through here every week since my primary runs are to Philly and long Island.

Welcome Unyime.
What I heard you say was, "I hate having money and happiness and I think I've found the quickest way to eliminate both from my life. I'm going to jump head first into a cutthroat business I know absolutely nothing about and see what happens."
Listen, you need to get a few years experience in the industry before you lay money on the table and try to compete against those guys. This is a brutal industry. You can lose a lot of money in a hurry. You have to learn both the driving side and the business side if you want to have a prayer of getting anywhere with it. I personally wouldn't dream of telling someone to start their own trucking business without at least a couple of years of driving and a couple of years in the offices learning how a trucking business operates.
It's all rather complex and risky. Get a few years of experience in the industry before you try something like that.
Thanks, Brett, for sharing honestly with me.
Unyime, Reading your post took me back a few years when I was assigned my truck and began running solo. At that very point in time I had about 25,000 miles of experience. The first three months were extremely challenging, lots of mistakes managing my clock, finding empties, and learning the Qualcomm. Good news I didn't break anything but avoided many close calls.
Obviously I got through it and learned how to run my truck. You see there is a huge difference between driving a semi and actually learning how to run one to maximize your earning potential. The learning curve is steep and unforgiving.
My sincere and emphatic suggestion is to learn on someone else's dime. The big carriers are experienced and well equipped to teach you the basics and prepare you to run solo. Take advantage of it, knowing the worst thing that could happen is you conclude it's not for you as opposed to dealing with financial disaster.
Read Brett's Book to get a truthful and unfiltered summary of the trucking business.
Good luck.
Thanks, G-town.

I think you guys are misreading his post. It sounds like he has no desire to drive, he just wants to own the trucks and "contract them out" to a trucking company.
That being said, this is a ridiculous idea. For one thing, profit margins are way too slim to provide decent profits for the company, the driver, the brokers, and you on top it. And who would be the one responsible for all the maintenance and repairs? My guess would be you.
You'd be better off stuffing your cash in a mattress and forgetting about it. At least that way you won't lose any.
Thanks, Persian.
