I just did a bit of quick math and realized I only need to make about $10k bring home my first, and possibly second, year to keep my current lifestyle (at least my wife's). If I go to a company with a veteran apprenticeship program and my military retirement check, money will be even less of a stressor than it was. It was already nothing since we have no bills. If I decide to change companies after I get some experience for better pay, it's all gravy. AWESOME!!!!

William first of all thank you for your service sir👍👍 That's great your pay isn't going to be a driving force in your decision to work for any particular company. You can look at all the other revelant factors. IE, steady freight, equipment condition, honesty, and hometime options. There are alot of good companies out here and there are some really bad ones. Do your homework and find what fits you. Remember if a recruiter tells you something it means nothing if its not in writing. You will be amazed at the skills you already have that you will use on a daily basis. Being retired military you already possess valuable inter personal skills and are most likely very good at confljct resolution. Very handy in this business every day.
