*newcomers: The so-called Safe Haven rule only applies to Hazmat loads in a particular situation. It's not something you just call out "King's X!"
It also does not apply hazmat or not because the weather conditions were forecast and should be accounted for in trip planning. Sucks to be that close to home and have to shut down though.
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
I think it's also one of those deals where the only people who aren't aware of what is going on weather wise in that area live in a cave. I doubt any trooper would cite Errol once he got moving again for attempting to make a truck stop or rest area even though his clock had run out. Now, had he driven the rest of the way home, that would be a different story.

It's a different story now (30 minutes over time). Yes, it's on my time logs for the next seven days (two of these I'm home anyway!). And being a mad dash for my home + home time, and the circumstances of 6 hours stuck in traffic, you are right, (most) troopers are people too!

I almost got stuck myself out here. Had to keep going longer than I wanted because many exits were not plowed. Came up to my usual Nashville area stop (the huge Flying J on exit 182) and it seemed like every truck in the state was trying to park there, haha.
