Two companies that I know of who allow pets are PTL (Paschall Truck Lines) and Titan Transfer. Not sure what their policy actually is, but they allow them and aren't listed on the TT list of companies that allow pets.

Policies change from time to time. If anyone knows of other changed policies, add them so the pet lovers can hopefully find a company that suits them.

Roehl also now has a pet policy. The company faq page on this site still says they do not

Crete Carrier / Shaffer Trucking is one of the best-paying companies for student and experienced drivers in the truckload sector. Crete is the dry van side, with Shaffer pulling reefer. It's been almost 1 year since they've updated their pet policy - they allow pets. Definitely needs to be updated on this website, especially since they're one of the better paying outfits for newbies and experienced drivers for truckload / OTR in the trucking industry.

If I had to go truckload and didn't have an LTL gig, I'd roll with Crete / Shaffer or Prime. For a truckload reefer gig, I think Shaffer outguns Prime because your'e getting paid like Prime but without having to move into a lightweight truck.

LTL:

Less Than Truckload

Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.

LTL carriers include:

  • FedEx Freight
  • Con-way
  • YRC Freight
  • UPS
  • Old Dominion
  • Estes
  • Yellow-Roadway
  • ABF Freight
  • R+L Carrier

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

I just took a look at them and yes, they do pay well. My school isn't on their approved list lol.. maybe down the road some day if I'm ever looking for a new home, I'll remember to check Crete out.

Thanks 6 String.

Don't let that stop you! Crete / Shaffer is liberal in letting students in their program if the school's director will contact them and request entrance. I know this from firsthand experience.

I forget what the deposit and fine tune rules are, but PTL allows 1 dog for pet policy.

It's to bad because they sounded like a decent company when they came did did their presentation... but my pet is a cat and that is a very high priority of mine so off the list of possible companies they went.

I can tell you US Xpress will allow one cat or dog but for cats they either have to have front claws removed or wear booties or some other claw cover. I spoke with person in charge of safety (I think that was the dept) with HR at irving terminal and she confirmed soft paws would count... they basically are little non toxic plastic things you glue to their claws that prevents them from being able to scratch stuff. my cat is to old to be declawed and I don't think she would like having booties. I'm glad HR was able to put me in touch with the safety lady cause everyone else I asked said "no! declawed or booties only" and wouldn't even let me explain the soft paws thing, so I figured I find out from HR who makes that decision and she was like "I can call up so and so in safety and we can ask" so she dialed her up on speaker phone and asked... it was beyond easy. prob one of the nicest hr people I have ever met too... had that sweet old lady aura to her haha. you know the kind you dream of being neighbors with who bakes you fresh cookies all the time.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
