Hello, first let me say how AWESOME Trucking Truth is! The amount of detail and work is beyond amazing! OK, here's my deal; I currently live in Oregon and hold a class B CDL with current medical card. The Wife and I want to move back (for me) to Colorado. My plan is to go to School around mid year to get my Class A with all endorsements. My question; do I need to be in a certain place for a decent amount of time for Companies to be interested? Should I get my written exams done here in Oregon, or wait until we move? All opinions are appreciated! Safe travels to you all! Chris

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Considering permits are only good for 6 months, I think I'd get one in Colorado, if it were me.
