I am currently a new student with Crete. They pay $600 for 8 weeks of training. For 4 weeks the trainer is next to you the entire time helping and answering questions. Great starting pay as well, after the 8 weeks of training its between .34 and .36 per mile and then after a full 6 months solo it jumps to .44 to .46. I could me mistaken on that part by a cent or two but you get the idea. I live in Lincoln so I am real close to their terminal. I just completed week 4 of training. I believe next I start something called super solo. Not sure what that is yet but I look forward to some alone time up front.

Did you go to one of their "approved schools" I assume?

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

It's actually a pretty sweet deal, providing you don't end up with a lazy co-driver.

It really isn't worth the small amount of extra compensation for drivers who would otherwise go solo, in my opinion. Solo drivers get to sleep in a truck that isn't moving, they don't have to share storage space, they don't have to worry about their codriver careening off a mountainside as they sleep, etc. I love teaming but it really doesn't seem to work out for people who don't already know each other going in. Even then it sometimes doesn't work. Teaming can destroy even the closest relationships if you let it.

With that said, if it's only for a month or two it would be worth doing if required by the company you have your heart set on. Six months+...still doable, but expect to go through several teammates.

Yep. I went to Southeast Community College there in Lincoln.

Hey, Michael j. How is the driver training at Crete? I am just rapping up my schooling in Omaha and pretty sure I'm going with Crete in the next few weeks. What do you think of Crete so far. How is the driver trainer relationship for you. I have heard some real horror stories on that subject.

I really like their training. I chose Crete because they had the 600 per week and the fact that training is 8 weeks long allows me enough time to ask everything I may feel I have questions and makes sure I get the help I may need from a trainer. My relationship isn't perfect with my trainer and I bet no one out there would say they have a perfect one. Do we disagree on some things sure but when its go time we both work it out and I think that's most of what being a driver is about, you see a problem you figure it out and move on which is the way I have approached any issues I have. Besides it is only 8 weeks and after that I can do things my way. I think most of the problems that others in my class have had when they switched trainers is mostly a personality conflict. You are not going to learn anything if you always are in a fight with the trainer. To be honest I was dreading being around this person 24x7 and being stuck in a little place with them. The best thing I can do if I need space is too simply go into a truck stop if I can and find other things to do. Tomorrow is the end of my 4th week. I am at the mid way point and that time has blown by crazy fast. My only suggestion if you just don't feel like you are learning anything from your trainer or just fight and argue the whole time find a different one. No one can help you if you don't speak up.

Be safe out there drivers.
