I've used wax on the glass and sun roof for years. Works as described. On the sun roof helps keep the acid raid from damaging the glass.
I had an old biker years ago, give me advice on how to get rid of all the crap on my bike when it came time to wash it, without any scrubbing.
He used Shout, the stain remover for clothes, that you spray on and let soak in, before you throw your clothes in the washing machine.
The reason it is such a good idea on bikes, is that there are a lot of nooks and crannies to clean, as well as the fact that, if you don't have to touch the bike, you don't have to worry about getting burned before the engine cools off.
If Shout will work on the windshield and chrome of a bike, it will make easy work of the bugs on your windshield on your rig. Just make sure you have time to let it soak for a few minutes, and preferably have access to a water hose to rinse it off. I suppose you could use just the squeegee provided at the pump island, but when washing my bike, I always rinse with a garden hose full of fresh water.
This is what my local Speedway store had advertised as "Windshield Washer Fluid" one time when I stopped in...

Yeah well like Brian mentioned Rain-X itself does rather work like wax. So it makes sense in that regard. Of course Rain-X used to be kind of streaky on the windshield, especially at night. The lights would glare a little more. But I haven't used that stuff in a long time either so I'm sure it's even better now.
