Sam IV, usually most regional jobs are also considered as OTR. If you are moving in and out of four or five states on a regional job it will be considered as OTR experience.
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I had a question about regional driving. Does companies consider regional as Over the road? I was wondering because I was thinking about driving for Wal-mart after I get my three years expereice as Over the Road driver. This job that I want is dedicated routes. The warehouse is in the same town where I live.
Thanks , Sam IV
Sam...are you staying with Wal-mart during your CDL school? Are they aware you are trying to become a truck driver? The reason I ask is they may be willing to keep you on after you get your CDL. Maybe not in the A seat, but in some sort of position. Just thinking out loud. Good luck
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."

Walmart requires a minimum of 3 years OTR , no preventable accidents. Sam might consider a Walmart Dedicated account with Schneider or Swift.
Thus gets the experience handling store deliveries and all that goes with it. Walmart has plucked several drivers from the Swift ranks at the Walmart DC I am assigned to. It helps if you have one or two folks on the inside putting in a good word with recommendations, etc.
