Sorry pebbles. I havent started school yet, getting out of the marines and headed back home to Paducah KY on Friday/Saturday, my house is being packed up right now lol. Anyway I'm going to be going to MTC truck driving school, they have one in paducah. Here is the link. http://www.truckdrivertraining.com/
I was gone for 3.5 months school/OTR training, then went straight to another company as an "experienced" driver into a dedicated home daily job as they considered my time in school and training 3 months experience which was the prerequisite.
I don't get paid as much but I am home with my son every day... almost. There are situations where you might not make it home but in the last 6 months I have only not made it home twice.
Your reply immediately caught my interest! I've been on the road for about 6 months incl. training. I would like to know what company you work for. I need to be home more often and your job sounds perfect ! I am located in Savannah, GA.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Have you by chance visited that school, spoken with any of their students, or spoken with any trucking companies about being hired after graduating from that school?
I can't find hardly anything on that school. I don't have it in our database, they don't seem to have a website of their own, and I don't see a listing in Paducah. I don't even see it in Google maps.
For everyone out there - make sure you read through our articles on How To Choose A Truck Driving School so you know how to evaluate them and find one that suits you well. I'm not saying it's a bad school or anything. That's just it - I don't know. I can't find much on them other than it says they've been around since 1993. So I don't know what the deal is but make sure you do your research.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Its not set in stone, im gonna go check it out next week. I posted the wrong link. Its CDL Training Service and Consulting LTD. I think its a MTC school lol, I've called and gotten my application started and all that, cant really do anything else till I give them my DD-214 which I already have in hand. They said I am more thsn welcome to come tour the facility and meet the staff. I wont know for sure until I get home, but I will definately have a update on it. Here is the link I meant to post, its the main website. What do ya think brett.

Yeah, there's no way to tell from the website. It's obviously owned by the same people that own the other website - they're equally awful and have all of the same links and graphics and stuff
Like I mentioned, make sure you read through our articles on How To Choose A Truck Driving School but the two biggest things are:
1) Go to the school for a tour from the staff and make sure you speak privately with several of their current students. Catch em before school, at lunch, or after school lets out. Believe me, if the current students paid good money to attend that school and they're not happy with it, they'll definitely let you know.
2) Get a list of some major trucking companies that hire their students and then call a few of those companies yourself from home to verify it. If major trucking companies will hire their students then the school is legit. It doesn't mean it's going to be your best choice of course, but it's at least worthy of consideration.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
Thanks for the advice, definately gonna tour the facility. I cant wait to get there and see, but I also understand that it might not be what im looking for so im prepared for that.
Yeah, just have a list of a few different places that sound interesting if there are several close enough to choose from. Sometimes a place seems great until you compare to a place that truly is great. It's always a good idea to shop around a bit. Even if you find a place you think is perfect, there could always be a place that's more perfecter than the previous perfection.
