It's a god company old salt, my brother is finishing up his training with them in a week, I think you will be better off going through your college. They have their academy, but I felt limited seat time and my nerves cost me with them. Good luck

Thanks for the info. The school I'll be doing is through Stevens , but it's a community college called Ranger. After reading your posts about your time with them I was wondering if it was the same place or not. I can't find any info about the training through them, unless I'm just missing it somewhere. But it's not even the same structure I read about on here with Stevens. Anyway, thanks for the input i do appreciate it. You said your brother is finishing up with them, I wonder if he's in the same school I'll be going to. Somewhere around 90 away from Dallas called Ranger Community college. Anyway, thanks for the response. Have a good and safe run

The info I posted is for Stevens Transport, they haul refer loads. Main terminal is in Mesquite (Dallas) TX. Besides having their own driving academy, they do bring in students from other schools...so I think we are taking about the same company. They are good, just the their academy didn't work for me, so I'm with PAM.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

The Chad, how is PAM working out? I am scheduled to start at Stevens July 5th. After reading all of this it makes me wonder what I am getting myself into. Since they gave you the boot do you still have to pay them back? Are they real butt holes in class?

PAM IS Ok, Stevens is a good company and I will eventually try to get back to them. My Brother works for them and thy give him a load and halfway through that load he is pre planned for another. The school is challenging because it was difficult to get quality seat time, and I feel like I was rushed out to take my DPS road test to soon and consequently failed it 3 days in a row. Some trainers are good and some aren't, but that is the same with every school/company. Mary Anne is a hell of a trainer, get with her if you can.

Thanks Chad, I was told that women drivers are put with woman trainers, so hopefully I can get with her. I am going to get my permit this week before I go into training. Thanks for all the info you posted it helped me in more ways than you can imagine. Once I start the training, I will journal it here as well. One other thing, did you feel as though you were on parole having to check in with the recruiters every Friday and Monday between 8AM and 10AM?

You're welcome, that is true about OTR training, she is an Academy trainer, and that is mixed. I omky called the recruiting dept once a week, and that was just to make sure I was still going. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

So during your training with Steven's if you feel like you aren't ready to take the CDL road exam do they allow you to practice as much as you need to until you feel like you are able to pass it?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Not really, I requested more time, and they out me in a truck that had 4 people in already and gave me 30 minutes, some got a little more than that, but they are on a schedule
