Hey Turbine, dont mind Roadhog..he is from GA and we know they are all a littls slow up there!! :P
Ok Rog, you tossed the first grenade....
1st of all, I feel sorry for your geography teacher. Unless you're in Florida, Georgia is Down there. I also feel for your dispatcher. You're gonna get a run to, Canada, but end up in Mexico !!
2nd of all, I'll have you know I am a Damned Yankee. That means I'm from the North (the GREAT state of Pennsylvania and the ORIGINAL Nation's Capitol) (shout out to RedGator) and now I won't go back. I found me a great woman that knows how to fix dem vittles up good. We haven some frog legs and turtle soup tonight, if you wanna stop by
And you better be careful about them southern insults, I think Brett is a Southerner, with his 'Yap', and I know we have us a lassy (don't call her a lady, she's more woman than you are man, I bet) from Weeziana that can prolly wrastle a gator and a pig at the same time with a gun in her hand shooting at squirrels. Or as they call it, dinner. She'll have no trouble takin you on. Or me for that matter. I better hush.
Yeah, we gonna have us a real good time in Springfield. We got us sum good personalities here. Now, as far as Phillip goes .....
I AM Turbine2k5! :P
You can laugh all you want to, but you might be a schizophrenic, cause you sent me pm's from TWO different people and never once said you was the same person... Have you've been drinkin that polluted lake water? All I'm saying is I don't have crazy hair, and I don't read minds
All funnin' aside, I think I'm gonna start my blog from when I got the confirmation call and my itinerary to start school ... so, Thursday. The site is real good about talking about what is covered during class (and we should too), but I want to cover the 'how it affects me' aspect too. For instance, since I got the call, my wife has finally started showing the emotion of me being gone, and my kids have too (there teenagers and about to be in college, not knee high to grasshoppers). I also want to touch on the bus ride, life in the suite with 6 people, and how the class dwindles down... kinda like reality TV, except we don't 'vote' anybody off. (and hopefully it won't be any of us). Just to get several different views on how we perceive instruction, and the instructors. And then of course, our time in the trucks and with out trainers.
I don't know, just a thought, and I'm sure we'll have our own blogs on our experiences, but I thought it might be fun to view the same experiences through several sets of eyes.
Well, I gotta run to the store and get me some scivvies, then back home for lunch. 'Possum soup' today

I have applied to Prime. Stephanie is my recruiter. Although I cannot get ahold of her to see what my status is in the applications process. I have called her everyday for 2 weeks and keep getting her voicemail. Its FRUSTRATING!!!!!!
I sent you a PM to start with, and then I sent you a direct e-mail. I don't know how the system made me seem like two people.
Anyway, part of this blog is going to be for my friends at home. I'm not sure I wanna try to dance around everyone else's experiences. I just want to express my own. :)

Dewey, keep trying! It took me lots of calls just to get ahold of my own recruiter. You might also listen to her voicemail, she might be on vacation!
Hey RoadKill...opps i mean Road hog, sorry you mentioned your supper so i mixed up the name!! Yap..I am a cracker down here in FL, about a hour south of Tampa, but originally from Az, just outside of Tucson so I am not a yank by any account..LOL You are correct..I took a wrong turn when i got out of the service (took a left out of VA instead of going straight...guess thats what i get for following a skirt instead of paying attention to the road atlas!!) many years ago and ended up here..dummy me stayed!! Ya I think we will have a good time up there, I actually kind of feel sorry for the instructors now...NOT!!

Dewey, I am not sure what the deal is with Stephanie, but I had sheryl and she was right on the ball, she called me within 2 days and has replied pretty quickly to any questions i sent her via email. I know that they spend a lot of time on the phone so try emailing her, i have found with recruiters from other companies I applied with that they generally reply faster to emails than phone calls.

10-4 good buddy, loud and clear ..... Stephanie was/is my recruiter also, and your right, it is IMPOSSIBLE trying to get her on the phone. I would call 3-4 times a day trying to catch her near the phone (not gonna happen) and then the next day her vm would be full. I've tried emails too to no avail. On top of all that, if you let the Prime recording direct you to the 'next available recruiter' you might get disconnected (happened to me on 3 separate days / occasions).
I will say this, this is there busy time of year, and there are going through applicants like crazy, but yeah, it can be frustrating. It took me three weeks of no returns before I hit up another student for their recruiter's name and email. All that did was pi** stephanie off, as my number was given to her, and she called me back, not the other recruiter.
Then, it took another week to get her on the phone after I learned how to manipulate the phone system to get a human.
All I can say, is keep at it, and wherever you are in your process with her, she has NOT 'dropped the ball'. At least she didn't with me. Again, I think they are just crazy busy right now, so don't give up if Prime is where you want to go. Keep calling, keep leaving messages, she WILL be in touch. Eventually.

Easy there friend, Roadkill is guy decou out of New Orleans, and yea, those Instructors are gonna have their hands full with us. Although, we will need to keep it down, they don't put up with much BS, they'll just run our butts outta town if we get too rambunctious.
Anyway, part of this blog is going to be for my friends at home. I'm not sure I wanna try to dance around everyone else's experiences. I just want to express my own. :)
Yea phillip, I totally get that, and I plan on having my own thread also detailing my experiences for my wife and kids to follow along with. (as well as the next bunch of students) I was just thinking, in addition to that, and maybe even on this thread, we could 'cut up' like we are now, and talk about our days in class, on range etc.
I remember as a kid in grade school, one teacher showed a short 2 minute 'reel-to-reel' with no audio about an interaction outside a store between two people. Then she asked each of us in class what we thought happened. It made an impression on me how so many people 'saw' so many different things watching the same video, and NONE of us were right (she played it again, only with audio)
My thinking was since this site is about folks like us, coming into trucking, and going through the process together, the orientation, the instruction, the driving range, and eventually OTR , it might be fun, interesting if we all blogged about the same experience together. Each throwing in our own 2 cents worth, as it were.
It's just a idea, and maybe not even a good one. This site has been very helpful to me, and I wanted to do something to help build it, to offer something different, and with 3 of us, in class, at the same time .... well, it just seems like a unique opportunity to do something. I just don't know what that something is.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Thanks Roadhog and Divebum. I am leaning more to Prime. I like their training regimen and they seem on par with having a solid reputation. I have also contacted Knight, and CR England. All 3 seem good. Its just Prime allows me to bring my truck home, Knight requires me to park it in Charlotte NC. I live in Charleston SC, and CR England requires me to leave it in Florence SC. 3.5 hrs away from Charleston. But I like Prime over all.
Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices
