David, I used to be an instructor. You need to step away from the truck and give your DM a call. Be professional, honest and do not complain. Tell him about the situation and how you feel.
He will get you with a different Instructor, but I definitely would not continue with this one. He's probably a lease operator so he's just using you for the extra cash flow. Do not continue with this individual through the TNT phase, you are not learning properly and it will come back to haunt you.
Remember, they won't just hand you your license. And if you don't pass within a certain amount of tries they could possibly send you home. This situation is hurting you badly and you must contact your dispatcher privately as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of instructors that just don't know what they're doing but this is something that can be fixed. If that doesn't go well then contact me privately and I'll have it resolved.
Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.
The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.
The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14ยข per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.
I agree 100% with Daniel, you need to reach out. Backing can be taught on the pad, but pre trip needs to be gone over with to prepare you better. As Daniel said, a lot of people train strictly for monetary gain instead of to pass on their knowledge.
Please go into the sim lab and find either Sean or Bryan. They will help you get to where you need to be on your pre-trip. As far as your backing concerns, also present that and they will help you in every way they can in your journey to obtain your CDL.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

Hi all, I am currently nearing my 3rd full week out with a trainer and have only had 15 minutes of backing and done half a pretrip. I'm supposed to test out next week but am barely ready. My question is whether anyone knows if it's possible to test out w/ a different trainer from the one that took you out. Sorry for the desperate tone of the post but I feel like I'm in a dire situation. Thanks (and I haven't spoken to my FM about it yet)

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
