My partner & I are staying at Prime's Campus Inn right now. We just passed our tests and received our paper CDL-A's, and can expect to be called any minute to separate for training -- for the first time, as it turns out, because we were invited to fill vacancies in a "local PSD" option which worked much like CDL night school for two weeks.
This is how I'm looking at it, and you might do the same: we'll get better training apart than we could have received together. We are learning to be successful in a dangerous & demanding industry, so one-on-one instruction is critical. As for the separation, many people have sacrificed more for less benefit and if we can keep this in perspective for a few months we'll be happily and profitably reunited before we know it. An added benefit is that we'll come back together with two different ways of doing every little thing, and so can pick & choose our 'best practices' going forward.
As for Orientation and all that follows, you'll do great if you keep a positive attitude and consistently deliver your best performance, earlier than asked. Forgive my lecturing :) it sounds like you two know what you're getting in to and will do well. Please ignore the nay-sayers.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.
Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

By all means lecture. As I have mentoned in previous post, I too will be going into this with my partner as well (wife). The seperation, whatever company we go with, will be hell, but worth it in the big picture point of view. But all the positives that you just listed are what will make the hell worth it. Besides, getting back together will be fun and exciting.
I am glad to hear that Prime has team driving. I called a recruiter one day, and I could have sworn she said they didn't have teams. I am putting them back on the "we're going to apply there" list. Thanks for the info, and please keep us updated.

After 22 hours of traveling on the greyhound (including layovers) from Atlanta (never again), my girlfriend and I have made it to Prime to start the PSD program. We tried to drive but they said that their long-term parking was full.
We are both 23 and 24 years old and had well-paying jobs but after months of research and thought, we decided to pursue a career in trucking and that we wanted to team-drive together.
We put in applications for about 5 companies and every single one of them called us back within a day. Prime seemed like the best fit for our needs, in comparison to the others. So we left our jobs and picked a date and now we are here.
Thinking about starting a training diary once I get further into the process/training. I have just been reading the forum for a while now and haven't registered up until today. I've also read through the high road training program 2-3 times now so hopefully I'm prepared for what's to come. We're super excited to get everything started, even though being split up for 2-3+ months may be rough.
