Eric is hopeful:

hope they can get me loaded quickly

He said "quickly"

When you're dealing with a load/unload situation, "quickly" rarely comes into play. It's been known to happen, but don't hope for, or expect it.

An ugly truth: dock people have their own schedule and it often does not include you.

Just give the walmart a call and ask if truck parking is allowed overnight.

If they say yes then it does not matter how hard they are to pull into, all walmarts have a truck entrance somewhere.

Yeah, I'm always the optimist - LOL!

By "quickly" I mean "not all day" so it's probably the wrong word.

Hit the dock at 0750 so we'll see what happens.

Walmart does allow parking but my leader says she shows the pickup as pre-loaded so I guess we'll see when I get there. If so, problem solved - "hopefully!"

Keep in mind - the 70 hour clock is an ON DUTY CLOCK (which means, both driving and On Duty NOT Driving).

But it controls your ability to DRIVE - regardless of where your 11/14 clocks are at. Which means - if you hit your 70 - you can't drive, even if you have time left on your (daily) 11/14 clocks.

Which is why most people go right to off duty or sleeper - as soon as they get checked in or bump a dock. To save time on the 70.

The 8 hour split - only applies if you are off/sleeper for a consecutive 8 hours, and then - it only stops the 14, at the point you went off.

Some of the issues we've been hearing about here lately - are a combination of bad trip/time management - and bad log management. Heard from a guy recently, whose DM doesn't allow him to do resets (except at home time).

Sad to hear that a driver can't get a full days clock - because they can't reset when they need to.

Rick

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Sam is getting dizzy:

Sam, I taught math in middle school for ten years. The three clocks you need to know about can seem crazy when you're just reading things like 70 hours, 10 hours, 30 minutes. Believe me, when you start "living" by these times, it ain't so bad.

With everything I'm reading, these clocks are CRITICAL to being a great driver. Me and my wife have to keep those wheels turning so we can keep earning, and have our uppers keep us loaded.

Sam, I drove as a team from day one of my training period. I can assure you it is much easier to manage your clock as a team. Also, once you get started and are using the electronic logs , it is easier to see how it all works together. Your qualcomm will have all the numbers available to you right there on the screen - even your re-cap hours will be visible.

Electronic Logs:

Electronic Onboard Recorder

Electronic Logbook

A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.
