Great Answer!

A very good blog to read about different types of trainers and what a newbie might go through is here:

Your Trainer Will Test You On Far More Than Just Your Driving Skills

I am not sure I could have put up with everything Old School did, but he did and it worked out great for him. We never know what is happening behind the scenes or in the mind of a trainer.

All I can say, is that I am glad I am not starting out on flat beds. rofl-3.gif

What can I say ? I like to eat .And while no right to eat exists as far as I know; no one ,including the trainer in your story has the right to deny any one the opportunity or ability to eat when they are hungry. .your trainer is or was a bully ,and the only language a bully understands ,is in your face confrontation. You wanna run to your dispatcher everytime someone is mean to you ,you go right ahead ,i'm going to get in their face and resolve it right away. Whether I get fired or go to jail isnt of consequence ,that bully isnt going to get by with it a moment longer.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Zach, your missing the point. You are really ruff around the edges but I think there's a good guy in there somewhere. After reading your story Im not surprised at all by your approach to life. That being said, the point of this site is to enlighten new wanna be drivers, give them advice, guidance and support. We are also trying to change the image of trucking back to the way it used to be. Back in the old days. Ya know when truck drivers were respected not treated like the scum of the earth. Ive said it before and shall say it again. You have alot of knowledge and could be very useful with information in this site but can you PLEASE turn down the negativity? I get that your first reaction is to speak before you think which is ****ing everyone off. And hey you just might like that but this siteis not here for entertainment for the bored. We are losing sight of whats really important with all this back and forth. Im starting to feel like this is an episode of Jerry:/ Lets put away our guns and get back to the task at hand shall we.

Excellent advice for new drivers everywhere - if someone makes you mad, punch them in the face and don't worry about losing your job or going to jail.

Zach, you're a real blessing for new drivers everywhere. Just the lesson we're looking to teach here - throw away your future using violence to shut people up. That's what Zach does and it's served him well I'm sure. Can't wait to hear more.

Unbelievable.

Zach, my trainer ****ed me off soo many times. It ****ed me off when he said I wasn't ready to be a solo driver because I accidentally grinded a gear. It ****ed me off how he constantly made fun of Russians when my parents are Russian, it amused him but it drove me insane. It ****ed me off how he took a #2 in the cab because there was no restroom around, he did it in a bucket and the entire truck smelled like death. It ****ed me off how he talked about women like they were nothing but flesh. It ****ed me off how he made me drive on his clock sometimes. His mood swings also ****ed me off.

There was so many times when I had to bite my tongue, so many times when I just wanted to literally choke him. But where would that have gotten me? You could say that he walked all over me. Sure, but I had bills to pay and a wife to take care of. I quit my job for the opportunity to drive a truck. I had to do the best I could or I would lose it all.

So I ask you, just as I asked myself back then, what's more important? Being the provider of my family? Being a good husband and earning a decent salary? Punching him would get me fired, would I really be glad to be forced to come back to a job that I quit and I hated.

I chose to ignore him and focus on my family. I would be back at SAMs club right now making 300$ a week working overnights full time. I'd probably be planning my suicide if that was the case. It's been over a year and I almost completely forgot about that idiot.

So if I took your advice I'd be a suicide basically because I would have been fired and forced to go back to SAMs club.

I know you try to act tough, I've been around people like you my entire life. But come on man, you're a truck driver. We sit down all day we don't exactly exercise or lift weights or spar. None of us wouldn't last 5 minutes in the ring, especially someone who has been driving 20 years like yourself. Your body is so used to sitting by now that it'll be confused if you try to throw a punch. If you want to act like a bad@ss go be an amateur fighter. But talking like a hothead on the Internet is pretty pathetic. Reminds me of a teenager on Xbox live.

Well believe this ,I'm a borderline diabetic, denying me access to food is tantamont to deliberating attempting to kill me .Maybe you and the rest of your lil friends on here would get a big laugh out of seeing someone going into convulsions, having a siezure,... dying right in front of you ,especially if you had a hand in it .I can always find another job;...under the circumstances I'm sure a criminal judge might show leniecy ,I can't get another life once this one is lost .I will fight to save my life .Hell I'd even fight to save yours ,can you say the same ?Judging by the attitudes expressed on here ,I'd say no .Its real nice to know who has my back and who doesn't .

Zach, if you had a trainer and he wasn't letting you eat then you can simply give your company a call and they would hook you up with a taxi to a hotel and pay for your hotel until a different trainer can come pick you up. Companies aren't cheap about this. Violence doesn't solve anything. So you're going to punch your trainer and then finally go to Golden Corral for a buffet? No, you're going to punch your trainer and get arrested and spend the night in jail. Once you're out of the police station then you'll have a chance to eat once you're fired and in the middle of nowhere all on your own.

The company will have your back. They'll take care of you and even give you an advance if you ask. Central gave me 200$ for taxi rides and 40$ a day for food when my truck broke down. Then they found a temporary truck for me to use until mine was fixed so I can start making some real money again. They'll take care of you. Violence won't solve a thing.

And for the record, you're acting as if we hate you and want to see you die. That's not the case. We don't hate you, we just find you annoying and a lot of your advice is not suitable for a rookie.

A real credit to the trucking profession???????????

Look who is calling the kettle black.

You said my story was far fetched. Well Zach, not counting the drivers on here, I have talked to at least a dozen other drivers out on the road over the last few years. I have asked over half of them about OTR training. What happens if you and you trainer just can't get along.

This was before I was even looking into trucking as a profession.

EVERY driver that I asked said to call the company. They understand that sometimes people just can't work together. They will get you a new trainer.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Most companies actually do the calling. They call you every week to make sure that everything is still going great. They encourage you to tell them if there's anything they need to know. I called central 3 times, but they called me 5 time to make sure everything was going great.

Okay, I think we all need to take a step back, drink a beer or two, and remember this post is about RedGator BECOMING A TRAINER. We should be congratulating her instead of this petty school yard bickering.

RedGator. Congratulations and I know you will be a badass trainer.
