So a couple months ago I was already to get started trucking. I was applying to companies and was within weeks of starting and then devastation hit. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea.
After a 3 month battle with different masks and 2 machines I am now compliant and getting the best sleep of my life.
So my question is how do truckers run and keep there machine clean when on the road?
Are there companies that will hire people that require the use of a Cpap machine every night?
Most companies have no problem hiring those who are treating sleep apnea with a cpap. My boyfriend uses a cpap and we've worked for Swift and Celadon. Some truck stops sell cleaning swabs, new filters etc. so keeping the machine clean is not a problem. Buy an extra mask or two before you head OTR. His mask has broken twice while we were out and because the mask is technically a prescription item no truck stops or walmarts sell them.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.
In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.
It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.
CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
I don't know of any company that won't hire you just because you use a CPAP machine. Further I didn't know there were occasional CPAP users either. 🤔 😉😋
I'm normally out two weeks @ a time. I take my machine, hose, and mask to the house on home time and clean it all there.
