Sam, do not be concerned about your suckiness. If you're like most truck students, you'll question your ability to back up a tricycle about the second day of backing practice.

Can confirm, I'm in CDL school and I suck.

Good luck with it, you'll do great!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

For the first two weeks I was in school, I told my husband every night that there was NO WAY I could do this!! And I believed it too. I was terrified way more times than I was confident and trust me I killed my fair share of cones!!

You and the Mrs will be just fine! Just keep a positive attitude, look at every "failure" as an opportunity to learn and we will see you on the road before you know it! The coffee is on me if we ever meet up out there!

A great saying for all those in school or struggling through those first few months solo: You have only failed when you QUIT TRYING!!

Just waiting on the trucking company to give the go ahead and will be heading to Springfield, MO myself. Hopefully within the next few weeks. By then you shouldn't suck so bad, and hopefully take pitty on the new newbie and not laugh quite so hard :)
