I use a fairly deep bowl and don't put a lot of water in it. Set it on a towel. It still splashes, but the towel catches it. When I switch out for a dry towel, I use the wet one to wipe the floor. A side benefit is that an open bowl of water makes the air less dry in here.
Also, I have found it's best to have a bowl with a flared out base because my dog was knocking it over before.
You might try a square or even round Tupperware type container with a flat bottom. Cut the lid to where there is still an inch or so lip left around the top to sort of stop it from splashing over the top. Make sure not to leave any shard corners / edges that your dog might get cut on. You could also try to mount one of these dog water dispensers over a good sized bowl.

Sorry about the giant pic, it was that big on the Amazon page I stole it from. LOL!

Anyone have any advice on how to keep a bowl of water available for your dog's while driving? I'm trying to find how to do this without sloshing water all over the truck while your driving? Short of just only being able to give them water when you are stopping for a break I'd like to see if there was a way to keep a source of water available for them when driving since they are large dogs and drink lots of water.
