The Rubber Duck's truck in the movie Convoy is a Mack. It does not have a bulldog hood ornament.

The heavy haul O/O Sergei Dratchev owns a Mack. He is a v-logger, and put up this tour of his tractor.

Thanks for all the input everyone! And I was definitely looking for that "trucker geek" answer, so that was on the money. At my CDL school we have one Mack, and it's only a 6 speed and the cab is TINY! Which just means I can reach and depression the pedals with no problem smile.gif

I like the truck. I'm always happy to do my backing maneuvers in it.

CDL:

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

The retired cabovers are MH Ultraliners. That was Mack's last iteration of a cabover road truck (not municipal). Hope someone picks a few of those for restoration. Thanks for the pics, very cool.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I used to drive for Sharkey and have driven both models of Mack truck pictured. The Macks are tough as hell but they don't ride that good. Especially the cabover. It had camel back suspension and it was almost like the axles were welded to the frame. It also didn't have power steering. It was "air assist" which was barely better than nothing. In short, if you were doing construction work or something where the need for your truck to be tough was a higher priority than comfort, Mack's fit the bill. The newer models are better suited as road trucks but, IMHO, there are other brands that are just as comfortable and cost less (Freightshaker). Sharkey runs Macks because Jack Sharkey owns the local Mack dealership.
