A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Hey Phil, I'd give OD a hearty recommendation. Sounds like you might need to work a P&D job if you went linehaul , or can you work nights? I hope it works out for you. I'd make a list of LTL companies and then go on their respective websites to get knowledge of where they are in relation to your new location, then of course you'd also have contact info. Same could be said for food service. Most of these websites, particularly LTL company sites, have a zip code function where you can find the closest terminal or service center to us as a customer.
Best wishes.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.
LTL carriers include:
Local drivers that stay around their area, usually within 100 mile radius of a terminal, picking up and delivering loads.
LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers for instance will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.
Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

I've had to relocate to Kansas City to take care of my elderly mother, and so once again I begin the job hunt. Anyone have info on good local companies here? I've got a couple leads already with fedex, groen**** and a mail contractor, but anyone with some insight or rec commendations for a good local company would be much appreciated. I need to be home nightly to take care of mom. Thanks
Phil!
