I know most of you folks over time have purchased many things for your trucks either locally or at one of the truck stops. I will find those in due time when I get out there. But for those of you that have found some good websites with good pricing, can you share which websites you have purchased from. Examples: cb radios, convertors, refridge, microwave, and anything else you have bought to outfit your truck with more personable items at a good cost.

Thank you

Believe it or not, Amazon. Most everything I own to support truck driving (my obsession!) I purchased through Amazon.

I second G-Town. I'm an Amazon Junkie. They have Everything. Product reviews help a lot,

Nice, I shop at Amazon myself a lot. Never thought of them though for big rigs. Thank you

Yup! Amazon!!! Unless I'm in full on "instant gratification mode" then, if I can't get it at Wally World or a truck stop, I have been known to go to Camping World for a few things! That's where I got my satellite dish and receiver.

Amazon, pawn shops, and terminals. Check out the drivers' board for things another driver may be selling. I bought a brand-spanking-new sattelite radio set-up today for half the price that the truck stops are charging. I also suggest checking out the local craigslist site if you're spending more than a day sitting somewhere. There are a bunch of flea markets that border several interstates, too.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

Whats the "average" size for a fridge? (assuming there is a standard size)

Better make sure your company allows Inverters before you purchase one.(or a fridge or microwave for that matter). You can't use a "cigarette lighter" inverter for those appliances. I'm going with Swift. No inverters or apu's , just 12 v outlets. I have purchased a thermoelectric cooler, lunch box oven, single burner butane stove, and a stove top coffee percolator. I should survive nicely on those essentials. Also, from Costco, paper plates/bowls, plastic "silverware", paper towels, etc. I don't really want to wash dishes in the shower! (Daniel) Lol. Hope that helps. Oh....I got all of the above appliances on Amazon

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Don't forget the 12v crock pot. The lunch box ovens are great but don't forget the little pans. You can get them at most grocery stores cheaper than the truck stops. Another thing that you are going to want for that percolator is a thermos. This way you can keep your coffee from having to be dumped and/or spilling.
