Flatie. You won't be paid till your second Friday with maverick. Mine was today. I've been waiting here at the hotel for a day now. My trainer is headed toward his house I believe which is close to mine. They're going to bus me home and ill meet him at the beginning of the week. If you're lucky, when you are assigned a trainer, they will be within 150 miles of your house and you can come home when they do.

You need to be home for a week before you go OTR? Are those " off week " paid or not paid? Since it's part of the training?

What truck are they using? Do they have good sleeper? Fridge? Wifi inside the truck? I'm a woman and got ton of clothes.. So I'm trying to roll my clothes to my backpack when I go to my training and it can fit a decent amount if I roll them! It would save me time to do laundry as well!

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

You don't have to go home. It's an option you have if you live close to your trainer. If within 150 miles they can get you home to wait till your trainer comes home IF they come home. If they dont, the trainer may be routed through little rock to pick you up or they'll send you to wherever they are. As far as the trucks I can't say as I hadn't got to meet my trainer yet. I believe all the training trucks are well equipped with fridges and inverters. Still not sure

Hey Flatie, I'm not sure how to check my private messages lol. Anyway, training has been great so far. My trainer is very knowledgeable and has shown me a few tricks to speed up the process of securing and harping. The trucks we have access to are amazing! He's got an epu , fridge, tv with an Xbox. They have safety features that make driving much safer. I can give u more information if I can find out how private messaging works.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

If you will see my email I would love to ask you some more info bout the training via private email. Thanks!

Hey flat, do you have your cdl already? I understand there's a waiting list for non cdl holders as they only train 12 people at a time. I was already in school when I applied and they called me after I submitted it. The process was lengthy but moved along once I graduated.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.
