What Do I Need To Study For Class B?

I am going for my class B cdl to drive a heavy straight truck....do I have to study all of the stuff on securing logs? Will that be on the test for class B?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

No Angie, you won't be needing to know that information for your test.

Thanks....what a relief.....could that be made a little clearer to those of us who are new to the business? eg: class B, heavy straight truck .....so that we don't spend hours studying stuff we don't need : )

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

The truth is that you don't need it for the class A test either. But you may need to know it for the "real world."
