Just wanted to say hi to everyone and give an update. I have made my career choice. My rig is going to be a beautiful 45' 45,000 lb. tow truck. Now before you start grimacing like you just bit a turd, please let me explain. I will be facing the same challenges as you do, navigating that beast through city streets and dealing with not-so-understanding drivers, but I'm doing it with somebody's 70 ft.+ rig attached to my already cumbersome rig. But know that there will be someone out there looking out for you should you need help. And please don't look upon me with disgust in my choice of careers. It will just give me a better understanding of the whole concept of trucking, as I will see it from both sides. Much love and respect to all.
Hey Chris...you must have thought you were on the Truckers Report when you started typing.. Nobody here is gonna make fun of you or give you crap for your choice of careers.. we're all about positive messages here...You never know, like you said, one of us may need your services one day..so, welcome aboard and don't take it the wrong way when I say I hope to never have to call ya..
Yeah man that was weird. Sounds like you've been harassed before online.
We aren't going to make fun of you for choosing to drive a giant tow truck. I have much respect for that actually. Driving an RV, or a tow truck for 4 wheelers doesn't have my respect but driving a big rig tow truck is pretty awesome. Tow truck + 70' of another truck = you have me staring while I pass by.
So welcome to TT. I'm pleased to see you made it out of the TruckersReport. And I hope you enjoy your new career!
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
I'm just aware of the reputation tow truck drivers have because of the actions of a few
Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices
Chris, I had a tow truck come get me about a month and a half ago after my truck dropped a valve going down Sandstone Mountain in West Virginia. He took me right back up the mountain and down the other side to a Western Star Dealership. I was enthralled with the whole trip. It was pretty amazing watching him navigate that mountain with not only his monster of a truck, but mine also which was grossing out at 79,500 lbs.
I was impressed! Good luck to ya, but to be honest, I'm hoping we don't have to meet up with each other down the road.
Well Chris....its like this.....Trucks break down....trucks can't be fixed along side the road...So....SOMEONE hasta drag 'em to the shop !! And in our years we've been darned glad that the guy drivin' the "HOOK" showed up
I'm pretty stoked about it. Going to a 3 day heavy training class this month. I'll be driving a beautiful KW with a 13 speed Fuller. Can't wait.
