The highest paying rookie company I found was Prime which is why I am here. Once u have the cdl they pay you $700 GROSS per week regardless of miles. If your TRUCK miles exceed 700 dollars worth you get paid 14 cpm. (It says 14 cpm on your pay but you are guarantee 700 at least). U get to 30k miles and u go solo. Some teams take longer than others.... ask your trainer what they avg weekly. Once i upgraded I got 39.5 cpm or 44.5 cpm depending on the size of the truck I chose. Many other companies were giving 25 to 30 cpm to new solo.
As for trainers wanting to keep students longer..it CAN be true with some trainers. Would you rather pay a team driver 14 cpm or 18 or 20 cpm? Training is a way some lease or owners get high miles and pay the team mate less. Choose your trainer wisely. Ask questions. Demand to do all the backing and question thw number of miles each week.
