Van height - watch your power lines and always know your bridge heights.
An empty trailer will sit higher and get rocked by the wind more easily.
Watch your wind speeds and trailer weight for high-wind areas.

Backing...
G.O.A.L.
Get out and look. You will never regret taking the time to do so. Once, I was squeezed into a no-win situation. Inch-by-inch, I had to move, then GOAL, move then GOAL. I probably got in and out, 30-40 times. I'm not saying you will have to do that but in the end, it saved my tail.
Your set-up is key. If you have the room to set-up to back straight into your dock, do it.
And if you can avoid backing altogether, once-in-a-while, by all means, do so.
Don't let anyone pressure you into doing it faster. Take whatever time you need.
Good luck. Practice, practice, practice.
