But c'mon, he clearly meant a risk to his job and not someone's safety. I don't think it's fair to assume that mentality applies to everything then criticize the result.

Steve, I believe an owner operator would have to get permission from their insurance company to have a passenger onboard because ultimately the insurance company could be held liable for any injuries the passenger may incur in a wreck.
