Well, it's official. Medical card denied for one year. I've applied for a driver leader position at my terminal in the hope of keeping my medical insurance in place. It'll be an hour commute each way, but I don't mind driving, ha ha. It's also not too much of a paycut. They are holding off on terminating me to see if I get the job. I applied for unemployment 3 weeks ago, determination next week. If approved I'll get a lump sum for the back weeks which will help.
I am mentally and emotionally exhausted. Trying to keep my stress in check because it's affecting my blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Thanks to everyone that took the time to offer words of support and encouragement. I truly appreciate it.
What is the location of your home terminal? I will see if I know anyone there either directly or indirectly, in the hope of putting in a good word for you. Couldn't hurt.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Edwardsville KS is my home terminal. I know my driver leader and some other people are putting in a good word for me. Helps that I was on a regional fleet where I was in there a few times a week. But feel free if ya know some people there, couldn't hurt. Only good thing about rock bottom is only way to go is up. And thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers.

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
Hang in there sweet lady....things will turn around. You're in my prayers.
Been following this thread.. Really hope you're able to get the position. Please continue to keep us updated.
Operating While Intoxicated
Haven't heard anything on the terminal job yet, so I called my boss today to see if he talked to whoever does the hiring like he said he would, and found out he was off today. Decided to wait and call him tomorrow to see what's up. Heard back from Swift Charities, and while it was implied I would be getting help on all bills except medical and satellite tv, ended up only getting approved for one month of rent, $500. And they don't put it on the commdata card where I can get it immediately, I have to wait for a check to come in the mail. Haven't heard back from unemployment yet either, supposed to hear a determination by Monday. If approved I'll get a lump some payment for the back weeks, about $2000, which will keep my head above water for another month or two. If denied, I'm pretty much screwed. And also, had to borrow $100 from my brother today to go buy a new vacuum cleaner, because mine caught fire this morning and burned holes in the carpet. Sigh....so tired.

Let us know how this all turns out. What a shame that things have gone the way they have. You'll start catching some breaks here pretty soon.
Family and friends are going off on me, telling me I never should have said anything to Swift, I should have just went to the doctor on my own, and waited for the outcome before saying anything.
Every driver has to understand the responsibility that goes with handling that rig. You can kill an entire family by losing focus for one half of a second. This is rough as hell for you but it's nothing compared to what could happen out there at anytime and you know it. So you did the right thing. Never question that again. Risking innocent people's lives, and your own, because you're afraid you might lose a few paychecks is unacceptable.
You did the right thing.
Now just focus on what you have to do next.
There isn't just one path in life that leads to happiness. No matter what the outcome you'll have the opportunity to pursue something you want to do. Maybe it will be trucking. Maybe that will have to wait a bit so take the opportunity to do something else worthwhile in the meantime.
Get your health right and keep moving forward. Whatever the results are just take the best path available and do something cool. If you look back through history, many of the happiest and most successful people would have never started down the path they ultimately took if it wasn't for some sort of tragedy or bad luck that forced them to go in another direction. It's super frustrating when things are rolling along nicely and suddenly the rug gets pulled out from under you. Believe me, I've been there many times myself. But you'll rebound nicely and things will work out great one way or another. Keep a great attitude and keep looking for opportunities. It'll work out.
Thank you Brett. I know I did the right thing but like you said, it's hard to not regret it a little right now. But I'll get through this and hopefully next May I'll get my med card back and be back out there.
I truly hate all these things are happening to you. I wish I could help, but Romanian orphans have more money than I do right now. So all I have is prayers to offer.

Still pulling for you to get a resolution to this that brings you in a paycheck.
And still noting that - when it comes time to choose your insurance plans with a company - the extra $$ monthly for a short/long term disability plan, might be worth it.
Most folks assume they will be injured on the job, and WC will cover them. This is an example of how a non-work-related medical issue can sideline you.
Thanks for keeping us updated Ahmalia - please continue to do so...
