Hello,

I'm prepping to board the Greydog tomoz & after visiting the website have a few questions for experienced travelers. Says you're allowed 2 bags, 1 checked (50lbs), 1 carry-on (25lbs).

I'm planning on checking my duffle-bag & bringing a backpack on board. My question (specifically) is about my sleeping bag & pillows. I don't want to use up half my duffle with these items (and definitely not ALL of my backpack LOL).

Can I tie the rolled sleeping bag to the backpack & just carry my pillows? I have never riden the Greyhound before. Any advice?

Thanks.

Charlie, having a pillow on board with you is nice, but the sleeping bag sounds cumbersome. I'd tie the sleeping bag to the duffle and let it ride down in the belly of the beast.

Remember if you are over weight with your bag they will charge you extra for the excess weight. You will be responsible for paying that before they let you board the bus.

Some folks leave their sleeping bag at home and purchase an inexpensive one at Walmart after they get to school. Most schools and training facilities will run a shuttle van to Walmart each evening.

Meant to add, so pack as light as possible.

Thanks! That's why I was asking about adding it to carry on (to avoid charges).

As luck would have it, a buddy of mine from trucking academy was on a layover tonight from the Greydog in Indy & called me (we went out for dinner).

He tied his sleeping bag to his backpack & stowed it in the overhead. No probs.

He's with a different carrier & headed to Arkansas (long ride ahead). I'm glad he texted me & we got to see each other again before our individual journeys begin.

I wussed out & rented a mini-van. Brought the family & made an adventure of it. We rode around Chicago for a bit & visited the beach. When I got to the hotel the wife dropped the ball got teary eyed on me...domino effect to the kid. Was rougher then I imagined it would be LOL.

Gotta get my game face on now.

Trucking is a rollercoaster ride for sure. As low as you guys felt when you were leaving the high will be incredible when you return. Day to day life on the road is like that quite a bit also. Sometimes everything rolls along beautifully, other times you can't get anything to go your way.

As they say, all things pass with time. Just plow through the tough parts and try like crazy not to let them bother you any more than necessary. Enjoy the good parts to the fullest. The more you practice it the easier it becomes.

I was going to take a Greyhound from Louisville to Missoula MT. 47 hour bus ride... I need to be there by Sunday for orientation. So no stopping to rest lol. So i decided to get a plane ticket lol. So 47 hour bus ride turned into a 8 hour plane ride.
