Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
After driving a truck through California, I quickly saw why truckers hated driving through most parts of California. Driving in a car is fine, but there were a lot of spots I hated driving in. I got lost in Long Beach my second week solo, and had to turn around in a recycling plant, that was fun. Everyone says the Ontario Pilot is bad, but when I went there I didn't have any problems. It was kind of ghetto, but I guess they got rid of all the pimps and gangsters.
And as much as I wanted to drive a truck through my hometown of the Bay Area, I quickly got cured of that when I went through 980 in Oakland on my way to Union City. I didn't realize how narrow those lanes were until I drove through there...
I'll be there sometime weds.

In my opinion is not most parts. Is the whole damn state.
CA is having all trucks not retrofitted now, to be registered....I still haven't gotten my paperwork sent into them. What these documents will do is basically give CA all the info on your truck, so that when the rulling goes into effect in 2014, they will have all your info in their computer, and when you cross the scale, they will know whether your retro fitted or not...So no sneaking into CA after 2014 ..
