I did a quick search on KBM and currently there is nothing in the archived threads about them. At least I couldn't find anything.
Without doing any research, 13 trucks is a bit concerning. They are smaller than small. The number one question; are they well equipped to train you once you graduate from Sage? Once you get your CDL , that's the extent of your experience, you know enough to pass the tests, that's it. Sage does not teach you how to be an effective, safe, and efficient truck driver. Most companies that will accept training a new driver, one with no experience, pair you with an instructor/trainer/mentor for a set period of time before turning you loose on your own. The actual length varies, but on average it's about 5-6 weeks of time. And even after completion of the training,...it barely scratches the surface. Just ask some of the drivers on the forum who recently were upgraded to first seat, solo status. Up to one full year after getting your CDL is basically absorbing the learning curve, earning your stripes and figuring out how to make a decent living at this.
So after a long winded response, I'd be very cautious about starting out with a company that small. If you insist on trying to hire on with them, I'd do more than the minimal amount of research before committing.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
I have recently heard of a small outfit in Salt Lake, Utah that has I think 13 trucks. Sage CDL School referred me to them for a pre-hire letter so that I can be financed through Dept. Of Workforce Services (DWS). I am trying to be as informed as possible before I go get the pre-hire letter next week. Can anyone help me with anything at all you may know about this company?
I performed a search on FMCSA website and found only one operating under that name, their DOT# 2865015 with 01 truck and operating out of Redmond, UT. What is the company's exact name/DOT#?
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
The CSA is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicle
The FMCSA was established within the Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000. Their primary mission is to prevent commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.
What Does The FMCSA Do?
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
Thanks for the advice! I must ask G-Town about Swift: I have an option of going there. I am in talks with the recruiters now. I dont know how hard it will be to get on with 2 felonies. One of which is 8 years old. No one else seems to really be interested in me, except this KBM or what ever it is, and Swift. Believe me I have been researching for a year now. My recruiter at Swift doesnt answer anything, but phone calls. She wont reply to email or the Drivers Pulse App. Anyways, G-Town in your pic it shows a Swift day cab? Is that who you drive for? Please, tell me everything I should, and need to know about Swift also
A tractor which does not have a sleeper berth attached to it. Normally used for local routes where drivers go home every night.
Yes I drive for Swift, going on 4 years now. Please click on the below link to see what companies you should focus on. The main one that comes to mind is Carolina Cargo. There is a moderator on here named Old School. He has helped and advised many drivers with a criminal background. Good luck.
Sage CDL School referred me to them for a pre-hire letter so that I can be financed through Dept. Of Workforce Services (DWS).
I don't see any harm in getting a pre-hire letter from them to secure Dept. Of Workforce Funding (I assume that is a government education program?). You can get pre-hires from lots of companies, it does not mean you have to work there, it just means they'll conditionally hire you upon successful completion of the CDL school.

Having a better understanding of Frederick's situation, I totally agree with this.

Yep, thanks guys! I am keeping options open. G Town I am assuming that you think that Swift would be a bad fit for me? I am not going to focusa on one company just yet. Also, I am researching the other companies G Town gave me, but I have to be based in Salt Lake.
I am curious as to why you think you have to be based in Salt Lake?
