Ian why do you want to do this? Did you complete the 200 hours of mentoring/road training with Swift or just attend their one of their CDL schools?

Hi Gary, I initially wanted to go to schneider but I could not afford the 2000 dollars down payment for attending a school to join schneider.I do understand that both companies are good starter companies and that thinking the grass is greener on the other side is not always true.Next week is my final week at the swift academy and when I get my cdl its the mentor phase.I am shifting more towards staying at swift because their mentor phase is a bit longer and they are looking to grow their flatbed division which I am very interested in.The training at the academy has been stellar in my opinion.Any advise for are against this will be much appreciated.

My advice is to make good on the commitment you made to Swift. Schneider is a very good company. They would be happy to hire you if after your first year with Swift you want to make a move.

What if schneider offers reimbursement for the cost of going through swift?

My suggestion is withstanding. You are asking the wrong guy for the answer I think you want to hear. I honor my commitments, written or verbal.

Realize that Schneider reimburses a set amount each month (150?). I don't believe they write you a $3990 check on day one. Swift will require you to adhere to a monthly payment schedule. Make sure that you clearly understand your obligations to Swift and Schneider's terms of reimbursement before deciding.

Ok. Never said you were dishonorable. I was sharing how I approach this sort of thing and why I wouldn't jump to another ship or encourage someone else to do it.

Good luck no matter what you decide.

Ian wonders:

What if Schneider offers reimbursement for the cost of going through Swift?

This has been discussed on another topic recently, but something to keep in mind: if you leave Swift before your first 13 months, you owe the whole $3400. If you drive through that first year, your total out-of-pocket for school is $1950. By then you just might consider Swift to be a decent company after all!

A side note: both companies speed-govern their trucks. But my Swift truck has passed many Schneider trucks who seem to go about 1mph slower than mine!
