Mac there will also be opportunities to explore some neat places while in the truck too! We stopped at a little spot in Geary OK that was truck friendly. Cherokee Indian art, crafts and other cool stuff plus they had live buffalo and buffalo burgers at the diner.
You can find little cool spots like this just by watching signs and looking on Google maps and street view to find out if they have truck parking.
Cherokee truck stop, right? I just ate there 2 days ago.
Welcome to my neck of the woods! Lol
Thanks ChickieMonster, good tip! I had not considered that drivers can sometimes stop at will, (HOS permitting) and check out something they see by the side of the road. I just thought that once you got a load, you had to drive straight to the receiver without any unscheduled personal stops or delays. Good to know! Truck driving as a working retirement job is looking better all the time!
Sure was Lemmy! The buffalo was so cool and it came right up to the fence! Burger wasn't half bad either.
Mac, there are all kinds of cool places out there that are truck friendly. Did you know that the Mall of America in Minneapolis has a truck parking lot?
Sometimes the loads are scheduled with a little too much time on them. You don't have to run your tail off just to get to your appointment on time. I like to take those runs and use them to get a little extra sleep and get laundry done.
You have to stop and have at least a little fun! It's not always go, go, go!
Maverick has a "personal conveyance" policy in place where you can drop the trailer and bobtail up to 2 hours per week for your own use while on the road. For example, you can drive 15 mins to a restaurant or a theatre, spend a few hours there and drive back to your trailer and it'd count as 30 mins of the 2 hour weekly allotment.
"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.
