Yikes! I was planning on running out my drive time today but ended up stopping a little early due to the wind starting to pick up. I could feel my trailer dancing around in the lane so I decided to play it safe. But I'm still going to be early.
We are in Hershey, Nebraska tonight. I passed up the Loves and Flying J in North Platte in favor of a smaller truck stop a few miles down the road. When we pulled in there were a whole 2 trucks in here. There's room for at least 50, maybe more if people get creative! An hour later, at nearly 7 pm on a Friday, there's only about 10 trucks.
Only downside? It's a dirt lot and the potholes are deep enough to fish in! I hit one that was a LOT deeper than I expected!
We will be in WYOMING tomorrow! New state! Plus another new state, COLORADO after that. I'm delivering in Cheyenne and picking up in Fort Morgan CO tomorrow.

Hey Chickie, When I was doing those runs, I was running out of Denver to Wyoming and Albuquerque regularly. We had a big warehouse in Albuquerque and delivered to many independent HVAC contractors in WY. That stretch between Casper and Cheyenne is something to respect no matter what time of year you are there as you can run into just about anything, anytime. Nebraska can be very similar depending when and where you are. Colorado is something you don't want to look very closely at unless you want to immediately go home, sell everything you can't carry in your personal vehicle while you move out here!! It will absolutely blow your mind! And realize that you aren't even seeing the real stuff from a rig. Take a regular vehicle up to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park and really blow your mind!! Right now, they are clearing the pass over Trail Ridge Road that is at like 12,000 feet or something like that. It is the highest continuous highway in the U.S. over the continental divide or something like that. My facts escape my right now. However, I do know that people are already lining up on the road to be the first ones to cross it and stop at the highest tourist stop in the U.S. at the summit. I think that 12,000' may have been overly conservative but I don't remember for sure. I just know that all three news channels cover the opening every year for like two weeks before it actually opens. Oh, and Fort Morgan is like seventy miles from me. It's rural, but the people are real, genuine, and amazing!!! You will love it!

The last time I was in Colorado the sun was setting and it was incredible! It was my very first time driving with my trainer. I didn't make it far into Colorado, not even to Denver. Then my trainer drove through to Utah so I missed most of it. Transam doesn't run very far into Colorado usually so I probably won't get a chance to see the best parts for a long while.
Someday though!!
That's okay, but look forward to it as it is more than worth it!! And that is from a Texas boy who has been trying to get back home for a number of years!! I'm thinking that Stevens Transport is like my Zen for making my trip home a possible reality. Dallas (their headquarters) seems like the Emerald Kingdom to me. I literally turn Sixty at a little after 4:00pm tomorrow! I want to see things! I want to go places! I know that I cannot retire, so the next best thing is to go places and see things while I am getting paid to do so!! Another place where Allie Knight's videos might be helpful!!

Oops! Happy Birthday!!
Hey Colorado is my home!! You're going all the places I've been the last week and vice versa lol. I picked up in Ft. Morgan a couple weeks ago (meat), which is about 60ish miles from my house in Greeley. There's not really much out there unfortunately. The west side of Colorado is where it's really pretty. I was in Kansas several days ago too. I just missed the tornado in Dodge City and then drove literally right past the one in Salina the next day. I was so close it scared the daylights outta me--everyone was stopping on the side of the road to take pictures and stormchasers and police were everywhere. Now I'm in Tennessee heading south through Georgia, right through Atlanta, to Orlando, FL. It'll be my first time going to FL in a truck!
So, what should you do if you are in the truck and see a tornado coming your way? I've run all sorts of escape scenarios in my head, but is there a for-real best practice?

In my case, there was a rest area nearby I almost stopped at, but that's a really good question. What have you done in the past?
