Virtually no one goes to Mexico so you don't have to worry about that. Almost anything going to Mexico gets dropped at the border and handed off to Mexican trucks. Nowadays going to Canada is no big deal most of the time if your paperwork is in order. They've made that process a little faster and easier these days, especially for companies that do it regularly.
We have quite a few Prime drivers here so I'm curious to hear from them how often the company goes to Canada. It does say they require a passport so I'm assuming that's a requirement but it's a big company so there's a chance they might not require one.
Some of the Prime drivers will be here before too long and they'll be able to give you more details.
They say you are required to have hazmat and passport. From what I can tell.. most people do have them. I never got hazmat... and I had an issue with my passport cause mine was expired and it needed to be processed a different way. Never got one. I've asked around and it seems mostly teams go to Canada with Prime. .. but that is just what I derived from me asking people
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
There are two types of passport booklet, and card. The card costs a little less than the booklet, and if you are not planning on traveling from the USA by boat or plane, it may be good enough.
Getting a passport is not hard if you have one, even an expired one if it was issued less than 15 years ago.
I'm still finishing up my orientation, but I do not nor have not applied for a passport. In fact 6 of our class of 8 do not have passports. It doesn't seem to be an issue.
Why would anyone be shy on coming to Canada, it's safer than your USA.
Gas a is a little more expensive up here but we get paid more than US trucker's make.
And crossing the border is so easy, get a fast card. Dispatch sends in the paper work to border control. When you show up it's in there system and 95% of the time no problem just drive on.
And make sure to get the right kind of diesel when coming to the north in winter. Seen a few US truckers get there fuel line gelled up, and lots of wind shied washer fluid. Out of the cities your going to need it.
I drove for Prime for over a year and never got my passport. They do however want to know that you are able to get one but won't insist on it. Never had a problem not having it. It was never brought up after orientation either.

I really don't want to travel to Canada or Mexico. I know Primes website says you have to get a passport. Without a passport will they overlook me. I have had no accidents or tickets and no drug use. I've had 2 jobs my whole life and I am currently 53, so I am stable at work. What does everyone think.
