Just an FYI while we are on the birth certificate subject...

I lost mine a while back and just ordered a new certified long form copy with a raised seal from VitalChek. It was all online, which was very easy and convenient. It probably takes around 10 minutes to fill out all the required information and place the order. I paid $28 and it took about 5-7 business days to be mailed to my home address. If anybody is in need of a new birth certificate then I would definitely recommend checking them out. They also offer death, marriage, and divorce record services.

It doesn't matter how old your birth certificate is. Mine was issued when I was 4 years old and I've never had a problem. It has the raised seal so it's good. It's falling apart but then it's 24 years old soooo....

Thanks Chicki and Rick.

You need your ss card for tax reasons.. they need to prove it's your number.

You NEED your birth cerificate with a raised seal from your state of birth. A passport alone will not be accepted. Nor will a hospital cerificate. .. it needs to be from the state with a raised seal or you will be sent home

not correct. a passport is just fine.

Dealt with that issue at AZ-DOT for a state I.D. card lol ((Arizona residents do NOT have to have the chipped DL's / ID's until 2020))

I was not going to get an Arizona drivers license. They would not accept my "original" birth cert from the hospital from 1959 no seal? My mom never sent in the $1.00 for it , now inflation, it's $25.......Yet, U.S. Navy accepted it in 1977(a photo copy no less) BUT AZ-DOT, did accept my DD-214? still has NO damn seal...I guess they figure, only I would have that paper? lol

Dumb, anyway, just got my app for a NEW B.C., so I can proceed to get a passport next!..........Kinda tweaked me, having to give Calif MORE $$ When I don't even live there hahahaha. It is what it is I guess

I laminated my social security card soon as I got it when I was 13, never had an issue with it being so???

I was told the same thing...although considering my SS card is 40 years old, it's looking kinda ratty and dog eared.

No you CANNOT (should not) laminate your SS Card.

Social Security Administration - Can I Laminate My SS Card - https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/Article/3786/Can-I-laminate-my-Social-Security-card

If your card is getting old and dog-eared, you can apply for a replacement. Almost as difficult as a passport sometimes though. I still have the original one issued when I was a baby (55 years old) - "laminated" with scotch tape (LOL). I have the dupe that I requested 10 years ago - when I had an "issue" with the laminated card.

There are "plastic sleeves" you can get, that will fit in your wallet (my DOT Med Examiner gives them out with the Med Cards, to keep folks from having to come back for duplicates of dog-eared med cards). I keep mine in the same "sleeve" as my passport card. TWIC Cards used to come in a paper/metal lined sleeve (to prevent the RFID chip from being snaked), another good place to keep it. Most office supply companies sell ID Sleeve Envelopes (though you hate to have to buy a whole package of them).

Some companies are sticklers about laminated SS cards. "Technically", while not "illegal" (ie: its not a CRIME to laminate a card), employers aren't supposed to accept one, because there's no way of telling if it's a forgery or not.

So - DO NOT LAMINATE. If it's worn out - REPLACE IT. And do it WELL BEFORE you head out to orientation - so you have it IN HAND.

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Don't know who "they" is - but this is incorrect.

Also - the flashy "metallic duplicate cards" that you can buy online - are NOT considered to be valid cards.
