Absolutely loving this new adventure. Found a wonderful teammate, finished my training and have dealt with some of the hardest issues we face being away from loved ones. Hoping to get home for the first time in 5 months come February. Found out I-80 through Wyoming sucks this time if year.

Have home time scheduled for Feb. 6 we'll see how it works out. Last home time was suppose to start on Jan. 13 so I could see my oldest daughter while she was in town. Finally got out of Cheyenne after sitting four days (high winds, no light trailers) the day I was suppose to be home, then had to finish the run up to OR. So my baby girls' birthday is the 7th trying to surprise her. As long as the DM learned from the last time should make. :))
I'm new to trucking and slowly learning the game out here(6 months). I enjoy driving it is something I wanted to do ,hung my hat up after 10 yrs .working at a prison in Fl. .Personally have had no trouble with folks out on the road, just the knocks on the door and panhandlers.Has anyone every did a lease with a company and how did it work out ? Starting a lease and I'm scared and nervous but a little excited at the same time, any advice .
DON"T LEASE A TRUCK !!!!!!!!! oh girlfriend.....if you can get out of it...get out !!!! If you did a search on this site about leases, you would find that you can never make what a company driver makes..... RUN.....RUN !!!!!
Ask this question on the general board.....
I truly hope you can get out of your lease....
Well lets see.... Daniel is trucking I miss him like crazy and I am thinking about going back on the road with him. But to consider a career idk. I am scared that I might crash the truck or worse. Daniel is trying to reassure me that he will teach me and will do the best he can. Then he is trying to point out how much he is going to spoil me (in other words try to lure me in). So.... that's what's going on with me.
OK here's an update for Starcar. I just hit the 6 month marker, driving the 2005 Pete with the double set of dry bulk trailers around the city. The winter in Portland was unusually mild so I had a lot of work through the season until now. I've had a few new job offers already, for the upcoming 2014 construction season. That is a nice thing to have happen! One thing about trucking; it's an exclusive club. Once you take a job, doors WILL open for you. Keep that in mind ladies; when you accept your first job, it doesn't have to be forever!! ;D
DEBBY !!!! I'm so glad to hear from you !!!! I'm glad that you have secured your spot in trucking. You went into a tough area...mainly a man place...I know...I've dove into those places...they can really be tough at times. But you have done very well !!! You had better keep us updated on what your doing.....You are the only lady driver who drives local.!!!!!
Olga...I'm gonna start another post for your questions...I know that theres alot of ladies in here that will have things to add.
OK Starcar I promise to keep you informed! If anyone wants to ask me about the world of the local, heavy haul driver, I can try to answer. One thing that is very different about driving local; you've truly got to be up to the task. The fishbowl you're working in is invisible, but it's definitely there. The other drivers are wonderful advisers! But they see you everywhere, they might be opening hatches on one side of a facility cat walk while you're locking down hatches on the other side, they pass you on the area freeways, they talk to the cement batchers at the yards you unload at and they know your truck number. Also, the dispatchers are running you in circles all day, and everyone can hear your response on their radios. So everyone is watching you and timing you. Dry bulk hauling can be filthy work too. My method of dealing with all of this is simple; bring it on. I know if I can handle one year of this, I'm totally good to go. BTW: There is already a possible job running a ready mix truck for 2014...with O/T after 8!?! (Yes please!) I'll keep you posted!
